Data Center expands its Memory System

The new storage system, located in the server rooms and the Forum, will increase the university's storage capacity. The new Hardware has already been put into operation and is based on a scalable storage solution: IBM Storage Scale. The Software for Datastorage and Filesmanagement allows you to store large amounts of data in a secure environment.

The new System is available to cover growing memory needs on Campus. The large amounts of Data that are generated in the course of research projects and courses can thus be managed in a better way. The data of Panopto (video.uni-mainz.de), Seafile and iRODS will be stored on these servers. The latter operates the Data Center for the long-term archiving of research data and thus forms the technical basis for research data management at JGU.

The hardware for the personal and group drives underwent reconstruction and expansion. The new system also includes a redundant location in the Forum. As a result, university employees now have access to 150 GB instead of the previous 100 GB.

Optimized offer for JGU-Members

With the new memory sytem JGU-Members can request more storage capacity at the Data Center and do not have to operate their own servers in the future anymore.

The offer of the Data Center includes all storage classes, from personal and group drives to large research records and up to fast storage space for HPC-Systems.
