Mathematic Programs

Mathematica

The Mathematica software package from Wolfram Research is available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS. It includes, among other things:

  • A computer algebra system for symbolic processing of equations
  • Numerical software for numerical solving or evaluating equations
  • A visualization tool for displaying graphs and 3D/2D graphics
  • A programming language that combines elements of procedural, object-oriented, functional, and rule-based programming.
  • Option for symbolic computation

Unrestricted license for physics and nuclear physics

There is an unrestricted institutional license for Mathematica for the Institute of Physics and the Institute of Nuclear Physics.

Network license for the campus

For all other campus users, there is a network license with a maximum of 10 simultaneous users. These can be obtained via the ZDV apps.

MATLAB

MATLAB is software from MathWorks for solving mathematical problems and graphically displaying the results. The software is primarily designed for numerical calculations using matrices. Hence the name: MATrix LABoratory. MATLAB can be used on Linux, Unix, Windows, macOS, and Solaris operating systems.
Network licenses for the campus

The ZDV provides MatLab licenses and toolboxes free of charge to campus members. These are adjusted as needed.
